Fact-checking policy

Travel facts can become outdated quickly. Our process gives more scrutiny to claims that affect money, eligibility, access, safety or a traveller's decision to book.

Source hierarchy

  • Official authorities and primary records for law, permits, entry rules and public services
  • Operators or service providers for their own current schedules and inclusions
  • Established institutions, maps and reputable specialist sources for context
  • On-the-ground reports as supporting evidence, clearly attributed and dated

Time-sensitive claims

Roads, flights, prices, opening hours, visas, permits and seasonal access require a date or an instruction to verify with the responsible source. A forecast or historic pattern must not be described as certainty.

Uncertainty and conflicts

Where reliable sources disagree, we explain the uncertainty or omit the claim until it can be supported. Operator claims remain identified as operator-provided information where independent confirmation is unavailable.
